Spurred from an initial outreach to the family of a local fallen police officer, the mission of Horses Heal Hearts of Michigan is to shine a light into the lives of people facing personal darkness. During visits to hospitals, charitable organizations and individuals in need, the spirit of the equine lifts the spirit of downtrodden. Horses Heal Hearts of Michigan takes well-trained, docile and loving horses wherever there is a need for joy and hope. Giving rides to children of parents struggling with addiction, families facing a loved one’s critical illness, community members in the midst of financial struggles, Horses Heal Hearts of Michigan gives people a feeling of strength and hope. Horses Heal Hearts of Michigan embodies a beauty, grace and giving spirit. The sole goal is to heal hearts. At the initial visit to the home of the grieving family of West Bloomfield Police Officer Patrick O’Rourke, the officer’s widow remarked that the clouds cleared and sun shone for that brief period of time. It was a reprieve for the family unlike any other. We can’t make people forget their hardships. We can, however, give them a glimpse of something positive and let them know that we care. Sometimes a little bit of hope and love are all a person needs to give them the strength to go on. That’s what Horses Heal Hearts of Michigan offers.
